Customers of Capital One Bank received letters this week informing them that several of the branch offices are closing or going to an ATM location only. Two out of the three branch offices in Orange County will be affected by the decision from Capital One to streamline its operations.
The Northway location on North 16th Street in Orange will close its doors on December 2 and will serve as only an ATM location. The branch office in Bridge City on Texas Avenue will close completely on December 2 and will not have an ATM. Only the branch office in Vidor on North Main will remain open to the public in Orange County after December 2.
Jennifer Willett the branch manager of the Northway branch said the decision on which branch offices were to be affected was made by corporate headquarters of Capital One based on the number of walk-in and drive-through customers for each branch. Willett confirmed the half dozen or so employees at her branch were offered positions at other Capital One locations in either Vidor or one of the four branch offices in Jefferson County. The same was true for the employees at the Bridge City branch.
Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce President Ida Schossow was disappointed hearing the news and will hate to see the Northway branch close. Schossow stated, “Any time losing an actual location for a business, obviously, the Chamber’s not happy about that.”
After December 2 the Northway branch will serve as an ATM only location. Willett indicated Capital One plans to place an additional ATM machine, possibly a drive through, which will give the branch two at that location. She informed that customers will be able to make withdrawals, make deposits, and do many things that they do typically walking into the bank now.
