Filing for various municipal and school board elections has been conducted for the last ten days. Several contested races have already developed in some of the elections.
The City of Bridge City has three places on the City Council to be decided. Place 1 has incumbent Carl Harbert facing a challenge from Aaron Roccaforte. In Place 3 Tammi Fisette has John Nickum seeking to take her seat on the council. Incumbent Terri Gauthier is the only candidate thus far to file for Place 5.
The mayor’s position and one place on the council will be on the ballot in the City of Orange. Mayor Larry Spears Jr. has filed for another term. David C. Bailey is seeking a seat on the council currently held by Pat Pullen who has not filed as of Friday morning.
Five positions on the Pinehurst City Council. Appointments to fill vacancies on the council is the reason for the additional races on the ballot. Mayor T. W. Permenter who was appointed mayor after the resignation by Dan Mohon for health reasons has filed for a one-year term to complete Mohon’s unexpired term.
There are three two-year terms on the council which will be on the ballot. Johnny Asevedo has filed seeking his first term on the Pinehurst City Council. There is a one-year unexpired term also to be decided.
West Orange will get a new mayor this year as longtime Mayor Roy McDonald has announced he is not seeking another term. Jim Whittington has filed to run for mayor as well as Councilman Randy Branch.
The council seats of Branch and Brent Dearing are to expire in May.
The mayor’s seat and three positions on the Vidor City Council will be decided in May. Misty Songe has filed to be the mayor and Larry Williams has filed in Ward 6.
Four school boards in Orange County will hold elections in May. Bridge City has two incumbents already filed to retain their seats, Judy Cole and Patty Collins.
Two incumbents have filed in the Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD. Tammy Rountree in Place 4 and Aubrey Milstead in Place 5 do not have opponents at this time.
Roderick Robertson is the only candidate to file in the West Orange-Cove School board election. There are two at-large positions to be chosen.
The two incumbents have filed for the Vidor school board. Natalie Long in Seat 1 and Carrie Vincent for Seat 2 are seeking another term.
Filing for all of these elections continues until Friday, February 12 at 5:00 PM. The elections will be Saturday, May 1.
