The Orange City Council has a special election set for June 17 to replace Dr. Wayne Guidry, who resigned to become superintendent of the Hubbard ISD.
Friday, businessman Brad Childs filed to run for Guidry’s spot in the Single Member District 2. The deadline to file for the position will be 5 p.m. Monday.
All candidates for the seat must live within the District 2 boundaries, which is mainly the Little Cypress are north of Interstate 10. In the election, only registered voters who live in the district may vote.
Guidry served a year of a three-year term. The city charter requires an election to replace a council member with two or more years left in a term. His resignation was too late to be on Saturday’s ballot.
