
Orange police made two methamphetamine arrestsĀ during the weekend. They also encountered people giving them wrong names.
A patrol officer Friday afternoon saw a man he knows driving a Suzuki pickup truck and checked with police dispatchers. The man was wanted for misdemeanor city warrants, so the officer stopped the truck in the 800 block of Strickland Drive.
The officer reported the passenger was nervous and furtive. After finding out the passenger was wanted on five misdemeanor warrants, the officer arrested him. The man had methamphetamine powder wrapped in a piece of purple paper in his pocket.
The officer arrested 48-year-old J. Lance Deroche of Sulphur, Louisiana, who now faces a second degree felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.
The driver, 46-year-old Darrin Kyle Foreman of Orange, was arrested for misdemeanor warrants. A woman in the truck, 29-year-old Joni Dee Ziegler of Pinehurst, was arrested for giving a false identification and for city misdemeanor warrants.
Also Friday afternoon, Orange narcotics officers made a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 400 block of Lutcher Drive near Simmons Drive. The driver, 46-year-old Jimmy Wayne Block of Orange, was arrested for second degree felony of possession of methamphetamine.
A woman living in the Sunset Park subdivision learned the hard way about getting proper paperwork on a used vehicle. She told Orange police Friday afternoon she bought an old SUV from a neighbor for $2,000. When she took the paperwork to the courthouse to get the vehicle in her name, she learned the seller was not listed on the legal documents. The SUV could not be registered in her name. She told police that if the matter is not straightened out, she wants to pursue fraud charges against the seller.
A 32-year-old Bridge City man Saturday night reported his Ford Mustang was stolen from the Best Texan hotel, 2710 Interstate 10. Police report he left the keys inside. He discovered it stolen about an hour and ten minutes after parking it. The 1999 red Mustang was described as having a shattered windshield and gray spray paint on all four tire rims.
A woman reported as a reckless driver tried to outrun a police officer in a short chase. The officer said he went to the 1200 block of Ninth Street at 4:30 Saturday afternoon after people had called about a reckless driver. He saw a Toyota Camry in the middle of the street with its emergency flashers on.
When the driver saw the officer, the car sped away and ran a stop sign. The officer followed as the car went to Hart Avenue. According to the officer, the car’s tires locked at one time, emitting smoke, and making the car slide around a curve. The chase passed cars parked on the side of streets and people standing along the sides, the officer reported.
The car stopped on Hart. 31-year-old Katrina Renee Richard of Orange was arrested for reckless driving. The officer reported that when they arrived at the Orange County Jail she displayed “aggressive behavior.”
