The Pinehurst City Council met Tuesday and after a public hearing on the dilapidated condition of the building it was found to be a nuisance and a dangerous structure. Following a closed session with City Attorney Tommy Gunn the Pinehurst City Council directed Gunn to send notice to the accounting firm of Sandersen and Sheffer demanding the finished municipal audit by March 31. The notice will stipulate that if the audit and all appropriate papers are not completed and sent to the city from Sandersen and Sheffer by the March 31 deadline Pinehurst will demand a return of all monies paid by it for the audit.
There will be no municipal election in the City of Pinehurst this year. The City Council on Tuesday approved an ordinance cancelling the municipal election of May 6 because there are no contested races. City Administrator Robbie Hood said cancelling the election is a good thing. Hood indicated Pinehurst normally budgets $4,000 for the election which it can now use for other purposes in the city.
Three incumbents will serve another term on the Pinehurst City Council. Dan Mohon, T. W. Permenter, and Sarah McLendon will be sworn in at the Pinehurst City Council meeting in May. The date of that meeting has been changed to accommodate state election laws. It will be held after the normal second Tuesday because the swearing in is required to be done more than 3 days after a scheduled election date. The date will be Tuesday, May 16, for the council meeting that month.
