The budget season is here. Tuesday will be the first day for budget talks for next fiscal year at the courthouse complex in Orange.
With a little over a month of being county judge under his belt, Dean Crooks could be expected to feel a little nervous in his gut preparing to work on his first county budget. In addition to dealing with the normal yearly budget items the Commissioners Court will have to deal with the year after an emergency which Crooks points out is a challenge to do more with less.
While dealing with recovery the Commissioners Court cannot forget about other items including the normal capital outlay expenditures that would be in any budget. “It’s a big challenge, and it’s certainly nerve wracking, but you get through it, and we’ll take it one line at a time,” Crooks summed up.
On the agenda to present their budget requests are the County Court at Law, the County Clerk, Emergency Management, Elections Administration, and Records Management. The Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management will also present their capital outlay requests to the Commissioners Court.
The budget workshop will start at 9:00 AM on Tuesday in the Commissioners Courtroom of the Administration Building.
