Bruce Wayne Stone, 56, passed away peacefully in his home in Orange Texas, following a 2 year battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease, surrounded by loved ones.
He was formerly of Pasadena, Texas. Bruce was born to Jim & Alice Stone January 10, 1969, in Mt Vernon, NY. In 1974, at age 5, he moved to Orange, Texas, where he was raised by his mother and step father, Charlie Corson. He is preceded in death by his parents and both siblings, Jim Stone, Jr. and Sharon Stone.
Bruce graduated from high school from West Orange-Stark High School in 1987, and then attended Lamar University, as well as Stephen F Austin University, ultimately graduating with an art degree from The Art Institute in Houston, Texas. During his college years, he served on the college newspaper and was active in musical endeavors. His career was launched in Marketing and Advertising, where he served as Art Director. For the past 19 years, Bruce cultivated a remarkable career with the Pasadena Independent School District as the Communications Coordinator. His excellence and dedication to his career and his colleagues earned him 10 “Gold Medal Best of” awards, the Barry Harris Volunteer Award for his years of work with the McDonald’s Texas Institutional Fundraiser in 2024, and most recently, in February 2025, he was awarded the prestigious Professional Achievement Award by the Texas School of Public Relations Association in Austin, Texas.
Bruce was a very creative man, of many talents and passions. At 10 years old, he fell in love with the drums, and by age 15, started his own band with his cousin Gene. Over the course of his lifetime, he played in and managed over a dozen bands, recorded numerous CDs, served in Worship Band at his local church, and played special events, festivals, and weekend gigs all over the state. His love of and talent in music spanned all genres, and extended to singing, songwriting, and creating ambient meditation music for his YouTube channel. Bruce was also an accomplished artist in digital, mixed media and charcoal mediums. In 2025, he illustrated 2 children’s books as well. Bruce loved the outdoors, and was often found cycling, hiking nature trails, or playing racquetball.
He lived fully and bravely until the very end. A dedicated father, he valued family above all else. During his 15 year marriage to Priscilla Stone, he lived for museum weeks, music camps, softball games, and time with their daughter, Allison Grace Stone, now 14. His oldest daughter, Sarah Renee Sykes, 31, of Sugarland, Texas, gave him 2 grandchildren, Thea and Aria, and he enjoyed spending lots of time building relationships and being a Dad and Grandpa with them.
Bruce was an active member of Asbury Methodist Church in Pasadena, Texas, and had a strong and abiding spiritual life. He loved reading uplifting books and watching movies and sci-fi.
For most, Bruce will be most remembered for his easy going and compassionate nature, intelligent sense of humor, hardworking ethics, and love for his fellow man. He found joy in everyday life, and sought to heal the world through art and music.
He was loved by many; family, friends, and colleagues. Bruce is survived by his two daughters, Allison Stone, of Deer Park, and Sarah Sykes, of Sugarland, and her two children, Aria and Thea.
