Changes are being made to two of the top positions within the Bridge City Independent School District.
Superintendent Todd Lintzen announced earlier in the school year that he would be retiring after 36 years in education, the last five in Bridge City. Lintzen will be wrapping up his tenure next month as the school is expected to hire Mike Kelly as their new superintendent. Kelly was recently named the lone finalist and a vote by the school board is expected at the next meeting.

Kelly, 42, has been the Superintendent at Valley Mills ISD, a 2A school located northwest of Waco. Before he took that position three years ago he was the principal at China Spring Middle School.
Kelly will hit the ground running to find a replacement for Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Allen DeShazo. He has been told he will not be back next season after three years leading the Cardinals.
DeShazo posted a record of 6-21 but other sports have excelled during his tenure. His wife Jamie is also employed with the district.
A reception was held for Lintzen this week as he is preparing to move to Prosper, Texas. He says he has a few options if he decides to go back to work that aren’t necessarily in education.
“This was the best place for me to finish my career. I will leave with lots of fond memories here (at Bridge City),” Lintzen said. “And don’t be surprised if you see me pop in every now and then because we’ve made some great friendships here.”
Schools in the area have been through much adversity the last few years with storms and the pandemic but Lintzen sees the brighter side. “Yes we’ve been through a lot but that is why we have such a tight knit community here. When things happen people hear pull together and help each other. It’s a wonderful thing.”
