The Orangefield Bobcats opened their third round series with a 6-2 win over Diboll at Lamar’s Vincent Beck Stadium Friday night.
Starting pitcher Brycen Tait (10-1) put in a Yeoman’s effort with a complete game performance while dealing with three stoppages for lightning delays. Tait gave up two runs on five hits with 6K’s in the victory.
Diboll scored the first run in the top of the second on a fielder’s choice. Orangefield would take the lead in the fourth as Lumberjack starting pitcher Alex DeJesus walked the bases loaded and then Caleb Fregia made them pay with a double to score two. Kyle Michael followed that with a ground out RBI to make it 3-1. Fregia upped his team lead in RBI’s to 39.
The Bobcats would add three more in the sixth. Kyle Michael tripled with two outs and Camden Fountain doubled to bring him home. Then with the bases loaded Adam Tran would walk, followed by Kane Smith being hit by a pitch to score the other two runs in the inning. Diboll would add one in the seventh before Tait closed the door.
Game Two is at 4pm Saturday at Lufkin Hudson HS, with Gm. 3 to follow if necessary.
