The Orangefield Bobcats (9-2) head to Woodforest Bank Stadium Thursday for a second round 3AD1 match up with the Franklin Lions (8-2).
Franklin took care of Hallettsville 51-27 last week while Orangefield held off Diboll 29-20.
Franklin’s two losses are against teams still in the playoffs, Celina and China Spring. They’ve rolled off seven straight including an undefeated district title in District 11.
The Lions are averaging 58 points per game while giving up 28 per game. Interesting that they’ve given up more than 40 points three times, winning two of those.
“They are a big physical football team,” said Orangefield Coach Jeff Breaux. “They run the Slot-T and are very explosive on offense. They spread the ball around and everyone that touches the ball can take it the distance. Defensively I don’t see many weaknesses.”
The Bobcats will need to be clean on their tackles. A lot of the Lions yardage came after missed tackles and second effort.
The winner will play the winner between Columbus/Westwood. Franklin went to the State Championship four straight years (20-23), winning two. Columbus won the 31 D1 title last year.
The address for Woodforest Bank Stadium is 19115 David Memorial Dr, Shenandoah, TX 77385.
