After a 7-7 battle at half, the Orangefield Bobcats and Hardin-Jefferson Hawks turned it up in the second half and the Bobcats escaped with a 24-23 win in their district opener.
Triston McGee opened the second half with a 76 kickoff return for a score and a 14-7 lead. The Hawks responded to tie it up with 10:11 left in the third. OF QB Mathew Watkins ran it in from the one late in the third to regain the lead for the Bobcats and the Hawks cut into the lead with a 25 yd FG to end the third to make it 21-17 Bobcats.
In the fourth Mathew Rainey added a 25 yd FG to increase the Bobcat lead to 24-17. The Hawks put together a 70 yd drive and scored with 2 minutes left and elected to go for two and failed. The Hawks attempted an onside kick that was received by the Cats, preserving their one point victory.
Austin Moore (picture) was the workhorse for OF offensively with 140 yds on 16 carries and a touchdown. OF travels to WOS Friday.
