The Orangefield Lady Bobcats saw their season come to an end in the second round of the 3A D1 playoffs with a 44-24 loss to Hitchcock at Lee College in Baytown Friday.
Orangefield took plenty of shots but they were just not falling. After putting up eight points in the first quarter they failed to score a point in the second and were down 22-8 at the half.
The Lady Bobcats tried to get more physical with Hitchcock in the second half but the deficit was just too much to make up. Mikayla Locke hit two 3’s in a row late to finish with 11. Olivia Smith added 8, Kendall Sullivan 3 and Brooklyn Wagoner 2.
Orangefield finished the season 31-4. “Tonight doesn’t define us,” Coach Eric Girola said. “I’m proud of the girls. From Day One until now they played hard and represented us well and at the end of the day, I can call this a successful season.”
And most of the team will return next year but Girola will miss his two seniors, Brooklyn Wagoner and Sullivan. “They were freshmen when I started here and to see how far they’ve come in four years is special. I’m very proud of them and we’ll miss them.”
Hitchcock (23-7) will play Fairfield in the third round. Fairfield beat Grandview 81-37.
