Despite a less than perfect night, the Orangefield Bobcats overwhelmed the Buna Cougars 41-0 Friday night at Cougar Stadium in Buna.
The Orangefield defense stymied the Cougars and its new spread offense by limiting Buna to 76 total yards and only four first-downs on the night. The Bobcats offense was methodical and efficient and used a combination of big plays and long drives to claim victory.
Bobcats running back Cameron Dischler made his presence knowns to the Buna Cougars in the first half with three touchdowns.
On the second play of the Bobcats second possession, Dischler broke right down the sideline and zipped passed the Cougars defense for a 75-yard touchdown and a quick 6-0 lead following the failed extra point.
On the next Orangefield possession, a 14-yard run by Hunter Ashworth put the ball at the six-yard line. Dischler busted through the Buna defense on the next play and a 14-0 lead after Ashworth converted the two-point attempt.
Midway through the second quarter, facing fourth and 11 from the Cougars 19-yard line, Bobcats quarterback Brayden Parker heaved the ball down the middle to the goal line as a leaping Dischler came down with the ball in the end zone to extend the Orangefield lead to 21-0 at the half.
The Bobcats offense used a nine-play, 73-yard drive to open the third quarter. This time it was fullback Ashworth plowing over Buna defenders on his way to a 19-yard touchdown to put Orangefield up by the score of 28—0 following the extra point by Ty Butler.
Ashworth would add another touchdown, this one from three yards out, just a few minutes later for a 34-0 Bobcats lead.
At this point of the game, Coach Josh Smalley started putting in other players to allow them to gather valuable game experience.
The Bobcats added another touchdown in the fourth quarter, this time a 1-yard touchdown by Hayden Dwyer, to close out the scoring and give Orangefield its 41-0 victory.
Orangefield (3-1) will return home next week to face the Silsbee Tigers (1-2) to open its district portion of the season schedule. Silsbee defeated Pleasant Grove, 30-20, on Friday night.
