The Orangefield Bobcats saw their incredible season end Saturday in the third round of the 3A playoffs, losing to Central Heights 4-0 and the best of three series 0-2.
Morgan Sampson got the call to start Game Two and he did not disappoint. The senior kept the Blue Devils off balance for five innings, posting one zero after the next.
But in the sixth, in a scoreless game, CH lead off with a single. Then an error throw to second put two on and that was followed by another single to load the bases with no outs.
Luke Taylor singled to score two and that was followed by another Bobcat error that scored a third run.
The Bobcats would get two on in the bottom of the inning on back to back walks but couldn’t get anyone home.
In the top of the seventh the Blue Devils would add an insurance run after an uncharacteristic third Bobcat error. Nick West, who finished off the Bobcats in Game One, came in to finish the seventh, and the season for the Bobcats.
Credit the Blue Devils pitching staff as they held a heavy swinging Orangefield offense to just seven hits in the series.
Orangefield finishes the season 27-6.
