Wednesday morning at approximately 6:15am, there was a boat crash on Cow Bayou approximately one mile southeast of the Roundbunch Bridge in Orange County. According to Capt. Ryan Hall, local Game Wardens responded to investigate the crash after daylight and interviewed those involved.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Logan Mitchell of Bridge City was traveling southeast along Cow Bayou shortly before daylight in his 22’ center console Majek bay boat on his way to go fishing. He observed the lights of a barge and tugboat positioned near the center of the Bayou and he proceeded to pass it to the right, striking the mooring line stretched from the barge to the shore. Mitchell’s vessel sustained major damage to the center console. The nature of the crash is still under investigation by TPWD and the US Coast Guard due to the involvement of the commercial vessel.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said a tug boat retrieved Mitchell from the water. (Above a Sheriff’s deputy is bringing his boat back to the ramp.) He suffered severe lacerations to the head and was transported to a Beaumont hospital in stable condition. He was brought to the boat ramp at 2682 E Roundbunch (Peggy’s on the Bayou), where emergency crews were waiting. He was conscious and was able to walk to the awaiting ambulance.
