Texas Tech has announced that James Blanchard will be back in Lubbock as the General Manager of the Red Raiders with a new three year contract.
The 2008 WOS grad was being wooed by Notre Dame after the Fighting Irish reached the National Championship game and then lost their GM to USC. Word around Lubbock was that Blanchard wanted to keep his family in Texas and the Red Raiders are happy about it.
Head Coach Joey McGuire said, “The success of our personnel department led by James Blanchard has obviously been noticed nationally with the significant interest he continues to generate annually. We’re excited James and his family have chosen to remain Red Raiders and continue the work we started not long ago in building a consistent program that can compete for Big 12 titles. We’re much closer today than when we first arrived, and I look forward to continuing to work with James on further building out this roster.”
Blanchard, 34, and McGuire (right) worked together when they were at Baylor and he was McGuire’s first hire when he took the job at Tech in 2021. McGuire stressed when he took the job that he wanted players from the Lone Star State and Blanchard delivered. At the start of the 2024 season the Raiders led all power conference schools from the state with 98 players from Texas.
ESPN reported that the three year contract will average $525,000 per year.
