Billy C. Permenter, 65, of Orange, passed away on July 3, 2017, in Beaumont.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2017, at Bridge Point Fellowship Church in Bridge City. Officiating will be Pastor Lance Faulkner. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Center, Texas, on August 4, 1951, he was the son of Burtis H. Permenter and Willie B. (Wagstaff) Permenter. In 1971, Billy graduated from Lutcher Stark High School, and then attended Panola Junior College on a baseball scholarship. He graduated from the police academy at Lamar Institute of Technology in 1984 while working for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, and in 1989, Billy started working for the Bridge City Police Department. While still with the Bridge City Police Department, he was asked to join the DEA Narcotics Task Force. While with the Task Force, he was offered a job with the Harden County Sheriff’s Department and then went to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. During his employment with the various police and sheriff’s departments, he remained with the Narcotics Task Force until his retirement. He was a very active member and served on the safety team of his church, Bridge Point Fellowship in Bridge City. He was also a member of both the Madison Lodge 126 AF and AM in Orange, and The El Mina Shrine Temple in Galveston. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bobby Permenter; and father-in-law, Bobby Hammett.
He is survived by his wife, Suzy Permenter; two daughters, Alicia Permenter of Port Neches, TX, and Shelby Permenter Crouch and husband, Nicholas, of Orange, TX; two grandchildren; Dillon and Emily Crouch, both of Orange, TX; brother, T.W. Permenter and wife, Lyndia, of Orange, TX; sisters-in-law, Barbara Permenter of Orange, TX, and Deena Moffatt and husband, Pete, of Waco, TX; mother-in-law, Dorene Hammett of Orange, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
