At halftime the WOS Mustangs found themselves in a fight with Hamshire-Fannett, leading 14-7. The Longhorns had outgained WOS in the first half while the Mustangs had to use an HF turnover to take the lead. HF appeared to have tied the game before the half with a 25 yard TD run but a holding call took the points off the board.
So as we prepared for a competitive second half, the Mustangs had different plans. Final score: WOS 42 HF 7.
On their first possession QB Jarren Terrell found Jayson Zeigler for a 32 yd. score to make it 21-7 after Angel Ibarra’s kick.
HF got the ball back and attempted a screen pass which Jalen Thompson picked off and returned it 50 yds. for another quick score to make it 28-7.
Elijah Gales would score and Zeigler would add another second half TD to finish the scoring. Meantime Shemar Manaway and the WOS defense shutdown the Longhorns, holding them to just 30 yards of offense in the second half.
WOS will play Huntington on Thursday. The game is tentatively set to be played at Beaumont ISD Stadium.
