Business was booming Friday at Big Lots in Pinehurst as people shopped for Christmas and holiday parties. But unfortunately employees were calling customers and telling them to come and get their furniture that’s on a payment plan because they are closing their doors.
Employees told KOGT that they learned that the store was closing on Thursday. They don’t know how long they’ll have jobs as the they begin a Store Closing Sale that will last until they get rid of their merchandise.
The Pinehurst location survived a reduction in stores in September as 400 were closed around the country after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company based in Columbus, Ohio had announced they had a deal with another company to buy its remaining assets and business operations, but now they say the company no longer expects that deal to go through and their remaining 900+ stores will close.
It was also announced Friday that Party City and its 800 locations were also going out of business.
