New Lamar basketball coach Alvin Brooks is making moves and preparing for the upcoming season as the Cardinals will join the Western Athletic Conference.
One of those moves is bringing Valentin Catt back to Southeast Texas. The 6-10 Catt left after his junior year with Orangefield as he lead the Bobcats to the third round of the playoffs averaging 15 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks a game.
This season he played with South Plains College down in Levelland, Texas. His father, Michael Catt, said that because of covid this was basically a free year of eligibility so he’ll have four years with Lamar if that’s what he chooses to do.
“Coach Brooks is ready to start working with him soon,” Catt said. “So we’ll be going to get him from South Plains and he’ll be in a dorm room by the end of May.”
Catt already knows a few players on the team. He’s played with Kasen Harrison who is from Beaumont and also Silsbee’s Jordyn Adams, who will be transferring to LU after a solid two years at Austin Peay.
