Tropical Storm Beryl didn’t turn into a hurricane until it was just miles off the Texas coast near Bay City on Sunday, July 7. But it packed a punch as it caused damage all the way up to the Midwest.
Beryl produced the most tornado warnings in a single July day, 110 warnings in 24 hours. Of those warnings, nearly 50 of them became confirmed tornadoes, including several in the lakes area.
Beryl is being credited as the cause of at least 13 deaths.
As of the end of business July 15, approximately 139,000 CenterPoint and Entergy customers were still without power. Less than 10,000 of those customers were Entergy customers.
Approximately 244,700 of the 252,460 Entergy customers have been restored, bringing the company’s total restoration percentage to more than 96%. All Entergy Texas customers in the Huntsville area are now restored, and the company expects to fully restore power to customers in The Woodlands and Conroe areas tonight. Due to a significant amount of downed vegetation, crews continue to face access issues in New Caney and Cleveland areas. Estimated restoration times for customers in these areas have been adjusted to 10 p.m. Tuesday.
CenterPoint, covering most of the Houston area, started with more than 2 million without power. The company now expects to restore power to all customers who can receive power by Friday, July 19.
