Bridge City has named Robert Bergeron as the interim chief of the Bridge City Police Department. Bergeron had served as the assistant police chief for a little over a year. Tod McDowell and Richard Teague will assist Bergeron.
With now over twenty years of law enforcement service Bergeron started with the Orange Police Department as a patrolman before working his way up to a detective sergeant. He came to the Bridge City Police Department in 2009 working in patrol before being promoted to sergeant over investigation.
Bergeron began his career at the Bridge City Police Department the same year the man he replaces, Paul Davis, became the Bridge City Police Chief. “Kind of sad that Chief Davis is leaving, he’s been a big mentor to me, giving me a lot of guidance over the eleven and a half years that I worked for him. I’m looking forward to the new challenges,” Bergeron responded.
Davis announced his retirement as the chief of police about three weeks ago, effective June 30, after about twelve years in the position. “Our ability to do better policing I think is way better than it was when I got here, and I am very proud of the folks that work for the police department and for the city and all that they’ve done during my tenure, I’m going to miss them,” Davis replied.
A reception in Davis’ honor was held Wednesday at the City Hall of Bridge City. City Manager Jerry Jones thanked Davis for his service over the last dozen years.
Jones said, “Paul came into a pretty bad situation, our department was not anywhere near what it needed to be, and he’s made those corrections, he’s done a great job, and we’re going to miss him.”
