The LCM Bears beat Bridge City 5-3 Tuesday night to hand the Cardinals their first district loss, while giving Head Coach Steve Griffith his 600th career win.
LCM (2-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first when Ty Shugart singled off of Logan Hamm to drive in Ty Moreland.
Bears starting pitcher Taylor Gilbert ran into trouble in the third when he walked Slade Foreman and Hamm. Then he gave up a 3 run homer to Sam Carpenter, his third of the year.
The Bears cut the lead to 3-2 in the fourth when Max Dileo doubled to score Brett Burrows who reached on a walk. LCM would leave the bases loaded down by one.
Dileo would get things started in the sixth with a lead off single. Jordan Alexander walked and then Taylor Gilbert singled to tie the game. BC intentionally walked Anthony Bandiero to get to Shugart. Shugart hit a ball up the middle that scored the go ahead run and then an error throw to first scored the second run to give LCM a 5-3 lead.
Dileo and the Bear defense closed the door in the seventh, ending the game with a called third strike.
BC (3-1) will host Lumberton Friday and LCM will travel to West Orange-Stark.
