Tod McDowell has been promoted to a full-time assistant coaching position announced head baseball coach Will Davis Thursday afternoon.
“We want to thank Jeff O’Malley and Dr. Jaime Taylor for making this happen and their commitment to our program,” said Davis. “Tod started here as a player and since the moment his career was cut short due to injuries has made himself more and more valuable to the program. He has continued to take on more responsibilities on our staff. It is great to reward someone whose career is starting to take off and be able to keep a quality coach and big asset to our program in Beaumont.”
A part of the first Davis’ first Lamar recruiting class, McDowell has been with Davis every step of the of the way from player to student assistant to volunteer coach and now a part of the full-time staff. Despite having his playing career cut short due to injury, McDowell turned his focus toward helping the program advance in other ways.
A native of Bridge City, McDowell will play a heavy role in the recruiting efforts for a program that has seen multiple nationally ranked overall recruiting classes and junior college transfer classes under Davis’ guidance.
