City Manager Jerry Jones gave his report to the council. Bridge City received the long-awaited go ahead from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to install filters in the Romero water well. Installation of the filter will take between two to three weeks to complete. Jones exclaimed, “That’s good news!”
Jones indicated work will also be done shortly on water and sewer repairs that the city has applied for grants to perform. The Water Development Board has sent a letter approving the sewer application, and Jones expects to receive approval for the water project as well. “If we end up with both of them we’re looking at about a million-dollar worth of repairs we can do,” Jones said.
The preliminary plat for the Marsh Estates housing development received approval from the City Council. The 41 lots are to be located in the city limits of Bridge City off W. Roundbunch Road. Developer Robert Cash addressed the council and explained his plans for drainage in the development which will be in an area with a history of flooding. The plat for the Marsh Estates will now go to the Planning and Zoning Commission for final approval.
A joint public hearing of the City Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission was called for Tuesday, June 5, at 6:00 PM. The hearing will be to receive citizens’ comments on a proposed zoning change from single family residential to multi-family residential for two properties on Granger. The owner wants to build duplexes on the properties.
The City Council approved amendments to Sections 12 and 17 of the City Council Decorum and Procedures Policy. These sections deal with how citizens and council members can have items put on the agenda for City Council meetings.
A workshop is expected to be held prior to the next council meeting to discuss how Mayor Rutledge will assign to members of the City Council any requests from citizens for items to be put on the agenda. The two options discussed were either a rotating basis between the alderpersons or have each alderperson appointed over certain municipal departments and to handle requests for items under those departments.
