Residents in the Bridge City neighborhood of Elsie Street and Arthur Street will get a study done of the drainage there. The City Council approved on Tuesday the request for an engineering firm to conduct the study at the recommendation of City Manager Jerry Jones.
Two engineering firms have been used by Bridge City, and Jones planned to call both on Wednesday to get their estimates on how long it would take them to complete the study of the drainage on Arthur and Elsie Streets. “I will contact both to get a time schedule on it and we’ll hire the one that can get it done the quickest,” Jones stated.
Three citizens even spoke about the drainage causing the water to rise on their streets from the steady rain on Tuesday in Bridge City. Debbie Burton lives on Wisteria Street and water got into her house. Don and Victoria Griffith live on Elsie Street and described how the water was literally coming out of the drain near their home like a geyser because of the heavy rain.
Approval was given by the council for the sale of up to $2,075,000 in certificates of obligation. Guy Goodson explained that the certificates were approved about sixty days ago and will be sold by Samco Capital Markets. Revenues from the sale of the certificates will be used for improvements to the water and sewer system in the city.
The City Council approved Traylor and Associates to administer multiple grant requests for Bridge City. A contract was approved for LJA Engineering to handle the engineering work to be done on the grants.
Kevin Mott was nominated by the council as a candidate to fill a vacancy on the Board of Directors with the Orange County Appraisal District. Each taxing entity in the county is submitting a candidate for the position on the board.
The next scheduled meeting of the City Council was to be on Tuesday, July 3. The City Council cancelled the meeting in a unanimous vote because of its proximity to the Independence Day holiday. The next meeting should now be held on Tuesday, July 17.
