Bridge City took an early lead in the first inning and then got homeruns late to win in walk off fashion. The Cardinals defeated the Buna Cougars 10-0 Tuesday night at Bridge City.
The Cardinals used four pitchers in throwing the shutout. Cameron Yadon started and tossed two scoreless innings. Peyton Havard, Gavin Green, and Logan Hamm each pitched one inning without allowing a run. Havard and Hamm were both very impressive striking out the only three batters they faced.
Caleb DuBois led off the bottom of the first for Bridge City with a single to left. Schuyler Thibodaux sacrificed him to second base. DuBois went to third on an error and scored the first run of the game on a two-out single by Justyn Romero to left field.
In the second inning the Cardinals scored three with the benefit of just two hits. Three walks and two hit batters helped their cause. Luc Hollier scored with a steal of home when Jackson Tims intentionally got in a rundown between first and second. Thibodaux hit a bloop single to center to plate the last two runs and give Bridge City a 4-0 lead after two.
Homeruns accounted for five of the last six runs for the Cardinals. Hamm, who just missed a homerun foul in the first, blasted a mammoth shot to right center for two runs after Thibodaux knocked in DuBois with a double in the fourth. In the fifth Romero hit a screaming two-out three-run homer to left that allowed the 10-run rule to be invoked.
The game was a solid win for Bridge City. In addition to getting to see four different pitchers, Coach Chad Landry used just about every Cardinal either in the field, at the plate, or as pinch runners. Bridge City improved its record to 8-3 on the season.
