Garbage and sewer rates are going up in Bridge City. The City Council on Tuesday approved a four percent increase for garbage collection in the city. The sewer rate will go up a $1.50 for minimum usage.
City Manager Jerry Jones explained the reasons for both increases. The garbage increase is the first in a couple of three years. The city is just passing on the same four percent increase the garbage company is charging Bridge City. The increase in sewer is to compensate for the additional charges the city is paying for testing. Jones said, “The increase we’re putting in does not even meet the increase in tests we’ve had every year.”
There will also be an increase in electricity cost after the council approved an ordinance approving the settlement between Entergy Texas and a coalition of municipalities. The settlement will recognize a rate increase initiated by Entergy Texas in May of this year.
Bridge City Bank will be the bank for the city’s deposits during the next five years. The City Council approved the contract with Bridge City Bank which will run through September 30, 2023.
An interlocal agreement between Bridge City and Orange County was approved. The agreement is in connection with Orange County overseeing the pickup of disaster debris in the event of any future storms or disasters.
