The first phase of renovations to the Bridge City Public Library is complete. The library reopened Monday after being closed for most of August to allow for renovations that have expanded the facility.
Librarian Mary Montgomery said the renovations have been in the works for over a decade. Montgomery credits the Friends of the Library for working since 2005 to raise all the funds that made the renovations possible. A lot of grants were also written to help with the construction.
A children’s reading room to be known as the Red Room with one red wall has been added. A young adults’ area with an aqua or teal colored wall was included in the expansion of the library.
Volunteers helped move bookshelves and restock books during the renovation according to Librarian K’Lynn Borg. “Some of the Bridge City cheerleaders and football players, and the Bridge City Volunteer Fire Department, so we’d like to send a special thanks out to them.”
Some ceiling tiles still need to be added to the main room of the library. Future renovations will be added to the west side of the library. These will include a new expanded lobby, two new public restrooms, and a meeting room with a kitchen which also be used for children’s groups to have reading time with K’Lynn. The Bridge City Public Library is located on Parkside Place Drive off of West Roundbunch.
