BC, LCM Up 1-0; OF Loses Close One

The Bridge City Cardinals opened the playoffs with an 8-2 win over the Huntington Red Devils in Jasper Wednesday.

The game was scoreless after four innings when the Cards came alive and the Red Devils started making mistakes.  BC scored five runs on three hits and two errors thanks to BC’s pressure running the bases.  Huntington (13-19) would score two in the bottom of the fifth before the Cards would respond with three more in the six to put the game out of reach.

Jacob Goodman got the start and pitched five solid innings, giving up two runs on three hits with four strikeouts.  After walking two in the sixth, Justyn Romero came in and struck out five of the last six batters.  The defense also shined, making every play but one in the outfield.

Caleb Dubois had two hits and two runs scored and Schuyler Thibodaux had two hits, three RBIs, and scored a run.

Game Two begins at 4:30 Friday in Jasper with Game 3 to follow if necessary.

LCM traveled to Diboll and came home early after an 11-1 five inning win.

It was a big day for senior Michael Lee.  The Panola signee was 3-4 with two homeruns and five RBI’s.  Max Dileo was also 2-3 with 2 RBI’s.  John Beeson and Chris Bilbo added two hits.   Bear pitchers Taylor Gilbert, Thayne Toomey, and Regan Burdette gave up just three hits and no earned runs.

Game Two is set for Friday at LCM at 5:30.

Orangefield’s Blake Bradley pitched a gem, but the Bobcats lose to Hudson 1-0 with a walk off in the seventh.

Game Two of this series is Friday in Orangefield at 5pm.
