The speed limit on FM 1442 in Bridge City will be changing. The City Council in Bridge City approved an ordinance on Tuesday that will reduce the speed limit for a section of the highway.
Mayor David Rutledge explained the reason for the action by the City Council was at the request of the Texas Department of Transportation which wants to change the speed limit from 55 to 50 miles per hour on FM 1442 between Fernwood and Ridgewood. TxDOT did studies to determine the best speed limit for that area of the highway and made the request to Bridge City for an ordinance to support the change.
Approval of the ordinance was the main action item for the council to consider during the meeting. There was some disagreement though on the approval of the minutes from a previous City Council meeting.
Alderman Carl Harbert questioned why several of his comments and questions during previous meetings were not included in the written minutes provided for the council members. Mayor Rutledge informed him that at the mayor’s request the written minutes were being condensed to just essential items discussed during the meetings.
Rutledge told Harbert that the true minutes are recorded on tape, and Harbert is welcome to listen to them any time. When the vote was taken to approve the minutes from the November 6 meeting of the council, Harbert cast the lone dissenting vote.
