The City Council in Bridge City awarded the contract Tuesday for construction of the new police station. There were six bidders and the low bid of $603,050 was from TMCI owned by James Stone which was awarded the contract. The City Council awarded 5-T Utilities the contract for installing 10-inch water lines between FM 408 and FM 1442 for a bid of $366,740.25. C & R was the lone bidder for performing sludge management for the Bridge City sewer treatment plant. City Manager Jerry Jones said the service by C & R will save Bridge City $30,000 from having to handle the sludge by other means.
The splash pad at the city pavilion off of Roundbunch Road should be completed by Tuesday of next week. Jones informed the City Council that the bids for the filtration of the Bridge City water system could go out next week. All 73 votes from Bridge City were given to Tim Schossow for the Orange County Appraisal District’s Board of Directors.
The recent rains have made clear the problem with drainage in many parts of Bridge City. The City Council Tuesday evening heard a complaint from Kenneth Prosperie who resides on Sunnyside of the problem with standing water in ditches in his neighborhood. City Manager Jones indicated the city has looked at the problem on Sunnyside before and will address it again. Jones said he will ask city crews to run a profile line on the ditches and then dig the ditches where they will drain from one end to other. Jones promised the city will certainly do that.
