Bouncing back from a tough loss at Jasper the Bridge City Cardinals won a decisive victory over the LC-M Bears last week. Lost in the win was Riley Harris the Cardinals’ strong safety to a knee injury.
This week is another tough battle for Bridge City against the Huffman Hargrave Falcons. Coach Dwayne DuBois says the Falcons are led on offense by their quarterback. DuBois points to Cody Gaitain as the one they have to account for. Gaitain has thrown for over 20 touchdowns and has several gifted receivers. Huffman’s most dangerous runner is Cesar Marroquin. With these weapons as part of their Spread Offense the Falcons lead District 10-4A in offense.
The Cardinals will have to work hard for their yardage DuBois states against a very strong Huffman defense. DuBois says the Falcons base out of a 4-3 Defense with their middle linebacker Aaron Wolf as the leader on that side of the ball. Huffman may not have any exceptional standouts on defense, but Coach DuBois believes the Falcons have 11 guys who play good hardnosed football and are well coached by Coach Mike McEachern and his staff with solid defensive techniques. The coach says Huffman presents a big challenge for the Cardinals, but it is something they’re looking forward to.
Two contrasting offenses will be on the field Friday in Huffman with the Falcons Spread and the Cardinals powering running game. Coach DuBois thinks the game will still come down to the same factors as most games, turnovers and controlling the tempo of the game. DuBois reminds that the Cardinals turned the ball over too many times in the loss to Jasper and LC-M did the same in Bridge City’s win last week against the Bears. DuBois predicts whoever wins the turnover game and controls the tempo of the contest should come out on top.
The Bridge City Cardinals and the Huffman Hargrave Falcons play Friday night at Huffman and live on KOGT.
