The Bridge City Planning and Zoning Commission met Monday. Final approvals were given to a zoning change request and to a plat for a new housing subdivision in Bridge City.
The commission approved a request for change to the zoning of properties on Granger Street and will recommend approval by the City Council. City Manager Jerry Jones said the owner of the property Chad Landry wants to build duplexes on the properties as he has done elsewhere in Bridge City.
The previous properties that have duplexes on them now are very nice according to the city manager. Those two other areas have been improved with the addition of the duplexes making a substantial difference.
Four other properties on Granger Street off Texas Avenue have also been put forward for zoning changes from commercial to multi-family residential with the idea more duplexes may be built there. Jones added, “Hopefully, they’ll be able to get that whole area cleaned up.”
Approval was given to the final plat on the Marsh Estates. Jones confirmed the concerns about the drainage for the subdivision have been answered. The Orange County Drainage District, the county, and TxDOT have all approved the final plat and the engineer’s design for the drainage for the addition Jones pointed out.
The Marsh Estates plat has 41 lots which will be reduced to 39 to allow the creation of a small lake or pond. The subdivision will be located off W. Roundbunch Road in the city limits of Bridge City.
Jones commented that Bridge City was fortunate the flooding from the heavy rains a week ago was not more severe. Bridge City received about 13 inches of rain and the high tide was in progress during the rain storm. He reported that not everyone that may have had water in their homes contacted City Hall, but there were nine residents that did call in about some flooding in their houses. “We were lucky to not have any more houses than that flood,” Jones concluded.
