Little Cypress-Mauriceville is proud of its nickname as the Battlin’ Bears. With the baseball season a few months away LC-M could be called the “Battin’ Bears” as Head Coach Steve Griffith has his players getting plenty of opportunities to swing their bats.
Griffith stated the Bears reached a milestone on Tuesday by achieving their one thousandth live plate appearance since school started this fall. The coach has totaled at bats for the players done in inter-squad games during athletic periods and fall league games over the last four months.
The emphasis is the hitters are facing live pitching and not just batting practice pitches. The practice has been beneficial to the pitchers as well as they are throwing their best stuff to batters who want to pound the ball. The coaches are counting balls and strikes when a player is hitting just like a real game. Griffith is confident this will develop his hitters before the real season and give the pitchers experience before the year starts.
Baseball practice after school begins January 25.
