An Orange police officer used his Taser shock gun Wednesday afternoon to try to subdue a loose dog that was charging at people. The officer reported the dog’s elderly owner said the dog had bit people before and she could not control him. She turned the dog over to the city animal control officer.
The incident began about 3:15 p.m. when the dog of “an unknown breed” tried to attack a mail carrier in the 1200 block of Cherry Avenue.
Two police officers and the animal control officer ended up in the neighborhood. A police officer reported that when the animal control officer got out of his truck, the dog charged at him, biting his pants.
Residents in the neighborhood were out in their yards and the officer said he worried the dog might attack someone. The dog had already attacked another dog and a cat. So the officer used his Taser shock device. The dog jumped and fell, and then ran to its owner’s residence. That’s when the woman told the officers she could not handle the dog.
