Update: Mr. Bird has informed KOGT that Mattress One has now taken care of their delinquent taxes and are back in business.

A local business has had its assets seized for non-payment of local property taxes. Attorney Steve Bird with Linebarger, Goggan, Blair, & Sampson which handles garnering delinquent taxes in Orange County stated Thursday that the local Mattress One owed almost $9,000 in delinquent taxes.
Bird and his firm have been talking with the store since May about getting paid the taxes. The attorney reported Mattress One has not taken any action whatsoever. He said the law firm felt it was necessary to take the step of seizing the store’s assets.
The seizure was done in coordination with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The store located in a strip shopping center on Strickland Drive according to Bird has been closed and the locks on the doors changed.
Bird added that they must wait 10 days before they can auction the assets to recover the tax liability and costs connected to it. If Mattress One does come through with the tax payment the assets will be released to them.
