Alexia Willingham recently graduated from Bridge City High School and now has the unique opportunity to enhance her already impressive talent.
She has been selected to attend the Western Art Academy at Schreiner College in Kerrville. Not just art, but western art.
The opportunity to attend the summer scholarship program came from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
The four week academy offers participants the rare opportunity to receive one-on-one instruction in painting and sculpting from well-known and well-respected professional artists. The theme of the instruction centers on western heritage and class time is divided equally between sculpting and painting.
Alexia has won various art awards over her school career from Stark Museum of Art, Gulf Coast Art Museum, and the Protégé competition held by Art Museum of Southeast Texas as well as the HLSR.
Her talent extends from canvas and clay to floral design and she’s seeking an apprenticeship to become a tattoo artist.
Willingham’s first college course doesn’t come without a challenge. She broke her foot during graduation practice and will be attending Schreiner on crutches. So telling her to go out to Kerrville and “break a leg” has already been checked. By looking at some of her work we have no doubt we’ll be hearing more, and definitely seeing more from Alexia Willingham in the future.
