
Art in the Park is still scheduled for Saturday, even though the Bassmaster Elite Tournament and Sabine River Festival through the weekend have been canceled.
The Orange Convention and Visitors Bureau, which sponsors Art in the Park, reports the annual event will still be held Saturday at Stark Park on Green Avenue.
The fishing tournament and festival were canceled this weekend because of flooding conditions on the Sabine River. This morning, Orange County Precinct 2 Commissioner Barry Burton said on KOGT that local officials are trying to get the professional fishing tournament rescheduled in May.
The Sabine River Authority Sunday lowered the spillway gates at Toledo Bend Reservoir. Currently, all 11 gates are open at two feet each with 22,000 cubic feet of water per second being released. With the generators, a total of 36,820 cubic feet per second is being released.
Monday afternoon, the Sabine at Deweyville is at 26.9 feet, almost three feet above flood level of 24 feet. According to the National Weather Service, the river there is expected to crest at 27.1 feet on Tuesday and begin to go down on Wednesday.
The Sabine River in Orange is now under a flood warning. The river Monday afternoon was at 3.76 feet with flood level set at 4 feet. The National Weather Service predicts the river to crest Wednesday at 4 feet and remain at the flood stage until Saturday.
