
At approximately 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025, deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call regarding a shooting in the 400 block of Kennedy Drive in Vidor. Upon arrival, deputies located a 64-year-old female suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was conscious and able to provide deputies with a brief description of a person of interest before being transported by emergency medical services to Christus St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.
Later that evening, deputies received information regarding the possible whereabouts of the person of interest. With assistance from the Vidor Police Department, deputies established a perimeter near the 11,000 block of Lake View. The suspect, identified as Robert T. Droddy III, attempted to flee on foot through a wooded area but was quickly apprehended.
Droddy was taken into custody on two outstanding burglary warrants out of Sabine County. Additional warrants related to this investigation are expected to be issued. Sheriff Bobby Smith stated, “The swift resolution of this case would not have been possible without the valuable information provided by members of our community. I want to extend my gratitude to those who stepped forward, as well as commend the outstanding teamwork displayed by our deputies and the officers of the Vidor Police Department.”
