A jury Friday decided a man should spend 58 years in prison for killing his roommate in 2017.
The jury on Thursday found 23-year-old Samed Faroq Rafiq guilty of murder for killing 22-year-old Nathaniel Anderson.
Anderson had been a student at LSCO and working when his parents reported him missing in May 2017. Six months later, skeletal remains were found buried in woods behind the old MacArthur Shopping Center, which was being demolished. The remains belonged to Anderson.
Rafiq had been Anderson’s roommate in a mobile home when Anderson was reported missing.
32-year-old Kevin Michael Van Horne of Orange has been indicted for a felony charge of tampering with evidence involving a corpse in connection with the case.
Orange County sheriff’s investigators extradited Rafiq last year from Farmingdale, New York, after he had been indicted here.
