Student athletes have had their seasons postponed or cancelled because of what the Coronavirus scare has done to the country. Now many athletes in the Class of 2020 have been hit again by the cancellation of the Southeast Texas Coaches Association All-Star Weekend which is usually held in June.
President Jason Hicks said, “After discussing the current situation of Southeast Texas and the COVID-19 pandemic with Christus Health this morning, it was recommended to the Southeast Texas Coaches Association to not host the Christus All-Star Classic this year. There are too many variables, conditions, and possible restrictions that are in effect and will be going into effect within the next few months. Christus feels that even with getting a grip on the virus within the next month or so, gathering that many people together in June could cause another flair up or outbreak of the virus.”
“The SETCA and myself do not want to expose the coaches, athletes, families, and fans to that type of risk, therefore, it is with great displeasure that I am announcing the cancellation of the 2020 SETCA/Christus All-Star Classic this year.”
The All-Star weekend features seniors getting a chance to showcase their talents in basketball, volleyball, softball and football.
