The end of June will see the site director at the DOW Sabine River Operations stepping down. Jean Algate has been the plant supervisor at the DOW chemical plant in Orange since June 2018.
In her three years of working at DOW Sabine River Operations, Algate has developed a love for the Orange Community. “I’m always very excited to talk about Orange and its people, I just love this town. I looked around the surrounding areas, but there really was only one place that I wanted to live and that was Orange because the people just wowed me,” Algate replied.
Algate was the guest for KOGT’s People in the Know with Gary Stelly on Thursday, she explained how important it was for DOW to hit the ground running in partnering with the community when it took over the Sabine River plant. Algate indicated, “You need to have education for what you do, so working with the community and giving back is vital because that’s where our work force is coming from. We want to make sure we’re good partners with the community.”
Retirement will find Algate moving to Houston where she has family. Algate wants to spend more time with her granddaughters and do some worldwide traveling with her husband.
Algate told Stelly her plans. She said, “Just like when I came here and found this community and I was very rewarded from it, I want to go different places, wherever it is I don’t care, I’m just going to go sit there and we’re going to stay there for a month or so and just absorb the culture and try to learn from it.” Algate is retiring on June 30.
