As the college football season hits the midway point, a progress report is released of which players would be named All-American if the season were to end now. Former West Orange-Stark Mustang, now Alabama junior safety Deionte Thompson has made everyone’s Mid-Season All-American list.
Aggie punter Braden Mann, and DE Ed Oliver of the Houston Cougars also made every list with Thompson.
And we’re talking about the Associated Press, CBS, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, USA Today, The Sporting News, and Fox.
What some are saying about Thompson:
SI – Thompson has proven to be a lethal centerfield safety since winning a starting job in the offseason, starting 2018 fast with an interception in two of Alabama’s first three games.
ESPN – It wouldn’t be an Alabama defense without an elite safety. Minkah Fitzpatrick was one of the top players at his position a year ago, and Mark Barron was a top-10 pick in the NFL draft. The 6-2, 196-pound Thompson is a redshirt junior who has waited his turn and is quickly entrenching himself as one of the Crimson Tide’s best defenders. He leads the team with 40 total tackles and also has two interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
