The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) can confirm that 46-year-old Pedro Jose Soza-Orozco of Groves, was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Rodney Price following a multiple vehicle crash along the eastbound frontage road of Interstate 10. Orozco was the Good Samaritan who stopped to help a stranded motorist.
On Monday, May 21, 2018, at approximately 3:45p.m., DPS received a report of a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10, near FM 1135, in Orange County.
Preliminary reports indicate that a Saturn passenger vehicle was disabled on the eastbound frontage road of Interstate 10. A Good Samaritan, driving a Ford F-150, pulled in front of the Saturn to assist. The driver of the Ford got out of his vehicle to attach a tow chain to the Saturn when the Saturn was rear-ended by a Ford F-250 pickup truck.
The driver of the Saturn, 26-year-old Steafan Horne Jr. of Louisiana, and his passenger were both transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries. However, the rear passenger, a 2-year-old child, was pronounced deceased by Judge Price at the crash scene.
The driver of the Ford F-250, 31-year-old Stevan Shonn Smith of Orange, and his passenger, were both transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with unknown injuries.
At this time, the Texas Department of Public Safety does not have updated medical information on any of the injured victims.
