Orange police said the man who died in the motorcycle collision Wednesday evening Jeffrey Norton of Port Arthur. He would have turned 50 on Friday.
Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the driver of the pickup truck that hit Norton’s motorcycle was a 24-year-old man from Jasper who was going to work. Alcohol was in the pickup truck, but officers found no indication it had been consumed, the captain said.
The pickup driver voluntarily gave a blood sample to police. Captain Enmon said police will wait for the toxicology report on the sample before considering charges.
The collision was about 6:30 p.m. in the 8400 block of Highway 62 North in the Mauriceville area. Captain Enmon said the motorcycle was traveling northbound. The pickup truck was traveling southbound and was attempting to pass another vehicle when it hit the motorcycle in the opposite lane.
Norton was taken by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where he died. Police reported the Orange Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance were on the scene.
