
Two teenage boys were injured early Tuesday morning after a pickup truck went airborne at the Womack Road railroad tracks and then flipped over upside down. The truck ended up traveling up the cement side of the Interstate 10 overpass where it stopped.
The 17-year-old and 18-year-old were taken by Acadian Ambulance Service to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Orange police report the crash was at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday on Lutcher Drive, the Interstate 10 access road, at Womack Road.
According to the investigating officer, a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup was traveling westbound in the 5600 block of Lutcher Drive. Lutcher Drive ends with a T intersection at Womack Road. The officer said the truck did not stop at the stop sign and continued traveling west.
Railroad tracks run parallel to Womack Road. The truck crossed Womack and when it hit the tracks, it went airborne. The officer said the truck went over the tracks and crossed over into the Old Highway 90 turnaround under the interstate.
The truck hit the ground and at some point flipped upside down until it went up the side of the interstate overpass.
The driver was 18-year-old Charles Cade Newman of Orange and the passenger was 17-year-old Derick Bowman.
Police are investigating on whether alcohol was involved in the crash.
