
Update: Mr. Burns passed from his injuries on Thursday, July 24.
The Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers are investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on U.S. Highway 87, south of Trout Creek, that occurred Monday, July 21, 2025.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 3:03 p.m., a 2023 Buick Enclave and a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia towing a 2019 Utility trailer were traveling north. It is reported that the Buick attempted to make a u-turn on the road and was struck by the Freightliner.
The driver of the Buick, identified as Ann Burns, 85, of Orange, was pronounced deceased on scene by Justice of the Peace Dana Ashmore. One passenger, her husband Charles, 90, was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of possible life-threatening-injuries.
The driver of the freightliner, identified as 58-year-old Joseph Mwangi of Willis, was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
