Two accidents in almost the same spot kept westbound traffic on Interstate 10 backed up Saturday.
The first was at approximately 9am. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10, near mile marked 876 in front of Cecil Toyota. This crash involved three passenger vehicles and a truck tractor semi-trailer.
Initial reports indicate that westbound traffic was stopped due to traffic congestion. An 18-wheeler was traveling westbound and failed to control his speed and rear-ended a passenger vehicle. The impact of the collision caused two other vehicles to be struck by the 18-wheeler.
Several were injured in this crash, but the extent of those injuries are unknown.
The second happened at approximately 1:45p.m., as DPS received a report of a multiple vehicle crash involving three motorcycles on the westbound side of the Interstate 10 overpass at 16th Street.
Preliminary reports indicate all three motorcycles were traveling westbound on Interstate 10 when the crash occurred. Troopers and other emergency personnel responded but details are extremely limited at this time.
The extent of injuries are unknown. A medical helicopter was called to the crash scene for at least one person.
UPDATE: Following a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Orange County yesterday, three motorcyclists were transported to hospitals in Louisiana. The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the motorists as Robert Wayne Young of Louisiana, Eddie Lee Williams of Louisiana and Shawn Bourgeois of Louisiana.
Eddie Williams and Shawn Bourgeois were both transported by ambulance to an area hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. Robert Young was transported by medical helicopter to LaFayette, Louisiana and his medical condition is unknown.
