
Two women from Orange were involved in a traffic accident Wednesday afternoon on Hwy. 62 in Jasper County. The accident happened about nine mile south of Buna.
The DPS says its preliminary crash investigation indicates that at about 4:15 p.m., a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse was traveling north, followed by a 2013 Honda Odyssey. It is reported that the Honda began to pass the Chevrolet as it began to make a left turn onto C.R. 826 and struck the Chevrolet on its driver side. After impact, the Honda continued into a nearby parking lot and struck a parked Nissan Rogue, which was then pushed into a parked Mazda CX9.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as a 42-year-old woman from Jasper, was transported to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Honda, identified as 56-year-old Rita Caillier from Orange, was transported to Baptist Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
There were two occupants in the Nissan, one identified as a 78-year-old woman from Orange, was transported to a hospital in Houston for treatment of life-threatening injuries and an adult passenger was transported to a Beaumont hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The occupant of the Mazda, identified as a 33-year-old woman from Buna, was not injured.
Jasper County S.O. assisted at the scene.
The highway was shut down for several hours.
